Mohler, Nixon & Williams Selects Data Domain Recovery Appliance to Manage Large Volumes of Backup Data; New Appliance Proves Key to Company's Disaster Recovery/Business Continuation Strategy

PALO ALTO, CA July 29, 2004 -- Data DomainT today announced that Mohler Nixon & Williams, a Silicon Valley Certified Public Accounting firm with more than 4,000 clients throughout the world, recently purchased the DD200 to more quickly and efficiently manage the backup and recovery of the company's important client data. The DD200 will provide a key component to the company's Disaster Recovery and Business Continuation strategy.
"The DD200 has become an important part of our infrastructure. Restores are faster, backups are faster, and my team spends less time dealing with backups," said Ned Rendell, MIS Director.
The DD200 has significantly simplified Mohler Nixon's backup infrastructure. Today, instead of backing up 300GB of production data to several DLT tape drives and dozens of tapes, they now back up to one DD200 and perform weekly clones to a single LTO tape drive for offsite storage.
According to Rendell, one of the unique advantages of the DD200 is its ability to compress data. Rendell needed a solution that would allow him to rapidly restore the previous month's data - without having to find and load tapes. He also desired a solution that would allow his team to perform multiple full backups per day, a function that would limit the amount of lost data in the event of disk or application failure.
"Since implementing the DD200 we have retired the six DLT tape drives and the 126 tapes used to back-up our data stores. We now rely on the DD200 for all our back up and restore needs," Rendell said.
In addition, Rendell realized that the recent addition of CIFS to the DD200 would allow him to easily integrate it into his network which consists primarily of Windows NT servers.
"The DD200 support for both CIFS and NFS has allowed us to easily integrate the DD200 into our network."
The DD200 Restorer is the industry's first disk-based recovery solution that enables users to fully recover data at high speeds typically reserved for high-end disk storage devices at a cost similar to tape automation. The appliance uses patent-pending global compression technology to store up to 23 TB of data on disk and is designed for companies that need access to their archived mission-critical information within minutes, not hours.
